Fitness Competition
Joining a fitness competition, like any other match or contest, entails great dedication and intensive preparation. Many find this as a promising career move so they take every phase of the competition seriously. If you aspire to join and eventually win one, you should be very familiar with the nature of the event so that later on, you will enjoy the perks of being in the limelight of the fitness arena.
Fitness contests have gained popularity in various countries. There are various organizations that sponsor these contests that serve as a venue for females to showcase their amazingly fit and well-toned bodies. They should not be, however, confused with female bodybuilding. While there is resemblance, muscle size is downplayed in the former. Aside from their fit bodies, contestants should bring with them their talent in carrying out athletic and physically active stage performances such as gymnastic routines, dances, or aerobics. Of course, these should be executed with femininity and gracefulness.
Figure competition
The figure competition is a sub-category of fitness contests that has become a popular option for women who want to compete and show off their symmetry and tone without the routine rounds, which require additional athletic and creative capability.
What judges look for
Competitors should prepare for two rounds: the swimsuit round and routine round. For the swimsuit round, competitors wearing one-piece or two-piece suits and high heeled shoes aim to please the judges with their appearance, poise, femininity, and overall physique and body condition. They perform a series of quarter or half turns before the judges.
In the routine round, competitors will perform routines such as dance numbers, cheers, aerobics, or gymnastics with the aim of showcasing their athletic talent. Judges will look for flexibility, creativity, and showmanship. It would be better to seek the organizers’ approval first with regard to props, music, and costumes.
Fitness of the mind
It is not enough that you are physically fit to grab the trophy. Intelligence, articulation, and your views and attitudes concerning health, lifestyle, and overall well-being matters too. This is why in some contests there is an interview round. In this round, judges will ask questions and elicit response from contestants regarding health and physical training issues. This is the part of the contest wherein contestants give the judges and audience a glimpse of their personality. Spontaneous and thought-provoking answers are usually appreciated.
Knowing if you are qualified
Different shows and contests have their respective application process and qualifications depending on the organizers. In general though, those who want to join must at least be 18 years of age and in good mental and physical health. Height or weight limitations and drug tests may be imposed, depending on the organization.
